Who doesn't love a 64 Strat with classic player wear...? Its like a fine pair of faded and well worn jeans that afraid the Custom Shop just does not get close to...

From our one of our favourite years for Fender, we give you this early 1964 Fender Stratocaster
As with Gibson, 1964 seems to have been a good year for Fender where they seemed to reach a zenith in the development of the Stratocaster, producing a guitar with that should rightly be seen as the archetype. Oh and Jimi had one…
The guitar has around the block quite a few times. The original finish has worn so wonderfully, evidently from hours played in sweaty clubs and stages. This has evidently dulled the clear coat in places. The celluloid pickguard is in good shape having shrunk a little and lost the tip on the lower horn. The finish still retains its vibrant colours which again here seems to be the right mix for a sunburst finish. The back has been pleasantly re-profiled slightly in places by a belt buckle! Evidently played for many years without the backplate.
The finish on the neck has worn comfortably all over, thankfully the rich brown rosewood fretboard has not worn too extensively. There is some life left in the original frets. Neck profile is that brilliant, slim but not skinny profile that seems to just fit in your hand.
The hardware is in good condition with the expected amount of corrosion on the saddles and tuners.
Electronically, its had a NOS CTS 1964 pot fitted in the volume position as it arrived here to us with a 70’s replacement and some of the solder joints have been reheated because of this. Other than that, there is nothing to report, all three pickups have original windings and all three sound totally superb, just as a 64 with black Botton, date stamped pickups should. They are evenly balanced too.
The guitar comes with a 1965 Black Tolex hardshell case which depending on how long this one hung around in the store before it was sold, may be the one it was sold in. It has certainly been with this guitar for a very long time.
This guitar certainly delivers tonally. Those classic mid-60’s Strat sounds can be found here, all three pickups are well balanced and blend well in the in-between settings. It takes an instrument like this to remind us how versatile the Stratocaster and how iconic those tones are.
Here’s your chance to get your hands on an iconic instrument from a classic year with a great look that the Custom Shop can only dream of. Don’t let it get away.
