Without any shadow of doubt, THE finest Strat we have had here…
This is a very, no exceedingly, rare 1962 Fender Stratocaster, factory finished in one of the most desirable and sought after custom colours around - Burgundy Mist.
It is in excellent condition, all original and simply breathtakingly beautiful in largely unfaded, original colour. It also happens to be one of the earliest curved board 1962 Strats we have seen and still has a good thick chunk of fingerboard, in fact if you view this from the side of the neck, the thickness of the fingerboard is identical to a slab and is one of the rarer ‘transitional’ curved boards. If you compare it to a 1963, you will see by this time the thickness of the fingerboard decreased by a fair bit and remained like this for the rest of the 60’s.
It is in stunning condition, however there are a few small dings here and there, mainly around the edges and there is a slight bit of clearcoat wear where the forearm would rest but overall we would give it a string excellent plus condition rating. Please see all pics taken from all angles.
All hardware is present and totally correct including the brown tolex hard case, the trem arm and bridge cover plus a cable and a strap. All the hardware and plastics are also, like the bodywork in stunning condition with hardly any corrosion at all.
The neck has a bit of play wear on the back and you can see the wear spots in the pictures but it, like the body has not faded at all. The fingerboard is free from any rutting and the original frets have just a small amount of fret wear in the lower reaches.
Internally, everything is exactly as you would expect to see with no issues, no funny business or routes etc. All solder joints appear original and all pickup windings are original with healthy readings all around the 5.7k to 5.9k region. Soundwise, these are all evenly balanced with a strong, classic 62/3 bell like tone that many players desire.
All pots are original with dates of 18th week of 1962, neck date is July 1962, serial number is mid 1962.
It plays real well with a good low action and a straight neck. There is good life left in the frets and it is quite difficult to put down however when you do put it down, you cannot fail to admire its looks..!
It’s not cheap, but we think it is probably the finest burgundy mist for sale right now and being a 62 it is rare for this colour, which is also a rare colour to start with! Most of the very few original Burgundy Mists we have seen have been 63, 64, or 65. We do not very often come across a 62 and especially one as nice as this…
