Very nice Fiesta Red body refin on this guitar which believe it or not, has totally undisturbed solder joints! I wish all refins were like this. We do not normally sell refin Strats but we could not pass on this beauty...

This is a very rare sight… Not that body refin pre-CBS Strats are particularly rare, but how many refins have you come across with un broken and undisturbed solder joints…?
Yes, whoever did the refin on this lovely Strat did it the very ‘lazy’ way and did not even bother to disconnect the pickguard, or the trem claw, or the jack socket. You can see the fiesta red overspray on the wires inside and even on the trem claw which he didn’t even bother to unscrew!
He was probably unaware at the time that what he was doing by preserving the original solder was such a good thing… maybe his solder skills were not that good and he didn’t fancy messing with that, or maybe he was in a bit of a rush - who knows? The important thing is by preserving the original solder it proves beyond any doubt that this Strat started life as one complete guitar and is not bodged together from various parts like so may refinished Strats out there are.
The refin is a pretty good job too. It is close in colour to a faded Fiesta Red and looks like it was probably done around 15 years ago. At the same time a light clear overspray was applied to the neck.
All electrics, all plastic and all hardware are totally correct for this guitar and being a 1961 it has that wonderful, thick slab of dark rosewood as a fingerboard. Original frets are in great condition and the only thing I can see that has been replaced is the nut.
Neck date of 10/61, pots date of 34th week of 1961 and serial number of 66664 all match up perfectly. This guitar has been in and was sold in the UK by Selmer who provided their own cases back then and this one comes with it’s original, Selmer croc skin hard case.
All three pickups ring with fantastic bell like chimeness and have typical early 60’s,. black bottom pre-CBS sound. All have original windings too. The guitar plays real well on it’s original frets with hardly any rutting on that superb, dark fingerboard and it even has a rare, crack free pick guard which in my opinion, has greened to perfection.
We rarely sell refins as there are a lot of ‘parts guitars’ out there and we only sell the good ones that are not obviously clobbered together. This one ticks all those boxes and is a delight to play and look at…
