A total classic 1959 ES-330 with all the desirable features you should be looking for in a first year ES...
Sorry, this item was sold out.
Timing as they say is everything… Which is a bit of a shame when it comes to the ES-330 as 1959 was when the last of ES-225’s roiled off the Kalamazoo production line and when the first ES-330’s rolled on - the 330 replacing the 225 of course.
This is not normally such a bad thing but this must have happened sometime mid 59 soon after which, the 59 neck profile started to get a wee bit skinnier and by early 1960 it was even flatter and skinnier than late 59. The upshot is of course, finding a first year, 1959 ES-330 with the typical, classic medium chunky neck profile is a lot more difficult that you would first imagine. Most we see are the late 59 profile, this one is one of the relatively rare 1959 330’s with the classic original ‘59 profile that everyone seems to love and yearn for.
All totally original and with the 5 latch, Lifton brown and pink case, this is a superb example of the first and most desirable version of the sunburst ES-330 hollow body thinline. It is in excellent condition as you can see from the pics and there is little wear or marks on the instrument. Original frets are in good shape, the action is lovely and low with a ‘plays itself’ type of feel.
In fact this is a very comfortable guitar to play and to hold, they did get a lot of things right with this guitar first time around and subtle things like the balance is perfect, the tone is exquisite and the feel is wonderful. It is such a light weight too you will hardly notice anything hanging around your shoulders.
All original electrics with two stunning vintage, black covered P-90’s that are strong and evenly balanced. No solder joints have been disturbed. All hardware is correct and even the original no wire ABR-1 has all of its original saddles still there. Nickel parts have dulled slightly to the classic matt finish that looks just right on an original vintage instrument and the plastics are in great shape with no warpage on the pickguard.
Case is also in good shape with all latches working and compliments the guitar perfectly. FON number, if it was ever there, has faded beyond recognition but pots date to September 1959 and neck is undeniably, total 1959.
If you are looking for a classic ES-330 then short of blowing a lot of money on a blonde, this is the one you should be seeking and we challenge anyone to come done, play it and not feel at all like putting this superb guitar down…
