You won't be able to take your eyes off this most beautiful example of a late 59 early 60 Strat, well we haven't. Have a look in the image gallery and be prepared for a good old ogle.....
Sorry, this item was sold out.
1959 gave us some big changes at Fender with the introduction of new designs as well as the development of their flagship instruments which is where this 1959 Fender Stratocaster comes to via, it seems, a time machine or possibly even an Einstein Rosen bridge (Wormhole).
This is without a doubt, the finest example of a 1959/60 Strat we have laid eyes on.
1959 saw the introduction of rosewood to the neck design of all Fender guitars as Leo felt that it would weather better than the one piece Maple necks. This year also saw the introduction of the three-ply nitrocellulose pick guard. and a change to the three-tone sunburst (introduced the previous year) where the red tone was made more prominent (something that was toned down a little in subsequent years) All these things have become iconic amongst guitarists, so when an original such as this lands at the showroom its an exciting time.
All we can say about this guitar is that its truly stunning. The three tone sunburst alone is so vibrant, having miraculously escaped the ravages of time and any real fade. the lacquer shows no signs of checking, retaining a deep gloss which isa wonder to behold. There are a couple of minor dings on the back but nothing that really detracts from the overall look. Next to the finish, the maple used for the neck is sensational. A wonderful mix of birds-eye and flame elements within the wood grain makes it look more like a Custom Shop offering than anything we’ve seen of late on a vintage Strat. The slab-board is in fantastic and the original frets are in great shape.
So often, the nitrocellulose pickguards do not weather well but here we have only a little shrinkage without any warping and the plastic near the neck pickup hasn’t cracked. The other plastic parts are also in tremendous shape.
Electronically, as you’d probably expect by now, all the solder joints are totally original and the pot codes read 48th week of 1959. Serial number dates to 59 and body date is 1/60 so this is a guitar made over the late 59 early 60 period.
This guitar comes with its correct Brown Tolex case which in itself is in fantastic condition. Also included is the original instruction manual and the original hang tag with the guitars serial number written in and the chrome bridge cover.
Sonically, this guitar delivers those wonderful 50s Strat tones built on the bedrock of a spry acoustic sound. The neck profile is a nice medium one and is not skinny like some of this era can be and it is a nice light medium weight of 3.43Kg
We cannot quite get over this guitar. The finish, the neck, just everything about it just has to be seen to be believed! You don’t see these everyday!
It will not hang around for long…!
