1956 Fender Stratocaster in Blonde, you just have to take another look!

1956 has definitely gone into the annuls of history as a great year for the Stratocaster, Buddy Holly alone set the world on fire with his, and lest we forget EC! They have a special tone and a neck profile that players will go to great lengths to attain. When one lands here with us its always a pleasure.

This guitar is exquisite. The work carried out by Clive Brown is wonderful as always. The translucent blonde finish really showcases the wonderful grain of the ash body and the relicing is on point.

The neck has been oversprayed but feels like an old finish. The neck date is 3-56 with and XA initial which is the signature of Xavier Armenta which puts us in the same sphere as Clapton’s Brownie as this same gentleman finished that neck. The refret really helps make this a very comfortable guitar to play. Whats wonderful about the work that’s been carried out on the guitar is that the character has been retained. When the neck was refretted it would have been very easy to sand the fretboard back to clean wood but instead we have a wonderfully playing guitar with all its history there to see.

The plastics here are correct, the bakelite covers on the pickups have started to crack but nothing to worry about and the pickguard doesn’t show any sign of warping. Electronically the solder joints under the pickgurad seem to be correct and the only joint that have been heated are at the jack socket and the vibrato claw. All the parts are correct.

The guitar comes with its correct tweed ‘Koylon’ case.

This guitar sounds killer. There is twang and spank in abundance, the instrument excusing a lively tone making this such a fun to play. The refret does help from player perspective as there’s lots of life left in the frets and the neck, with its favoured soft V profile is so comfortable. The mid-50s pickups run the gamut from smooth to screaming without venturing into brittle territory. This guitar has many years of playing left in it.

If you’ve dreams are filled with blonde Fenders but they’ve always been elusive then this is the guitar for you. Its not going to be hanging round for very long…..
