Superb looking guitar with a very realistic refin. No breaks or repairs and even has the original brown Stone & Co case. What's not to like...
Here is stunning example of a Gibson Les Paul Standard from what many consider to the prime period for the goldtop.
What we have here is an all correct 1954 Les Paul that has been skilfully refinished by someone who knows what they are doing in 2006. Whoever did the work, his attention to detail is second to none. Great care has been taken with this guitar to reproduce the colour of the gold as well as giving it a aged look as you can see by the checking and wear marks around the body. I’m sure you can agree that the end result is impressive.
There is also evidence of there being another tailpiece or tailpieces fitted, probably a Bigsby, at some stage as well as some different tuners.
Its probable that the fretboard received a light sanding before the refret, evidence of which can be seen on the first few frets, common place for more extensive pitting on a well worn fretboard. As with the majority of Les Paul refrets, the frets installed are larger than was originally fitted, though this does help with playability.
The plastics are correct aside from the jack plate and are in great shape as is the hardware.
Electronically everything is present and correct including a pair of Grey Tiger Capacitors though inevitably some of the solder joints have been disturbed.
Case is original Stone Faultless Brown Hardshell Case
Sonically this guitar delivers, a beautiful ring when unplugged with all the fun happening when we turn it up. As with any of these guitar we’re reminded again why we still go back to this combination even after nearly 70 years. Both pickups really deliver, from sweet to gnarly with a change of the volume knob.
These are becoming ever more popular with original examples fetching more and more. If you’re in the market for one then this might be your lucky day..
