Nice lightweight, classic late 1953 Les Paul Goldtop with perfect playability and neck angle that has that classic 50's Goldtop look and appeal...
This product is currently on hold.
How can anyone fail to like this…? There is something about the way the original gold finish on these early-mid 50’s Goldtop checks and wears with age. Almost like the lines on a face of a wise old man with plenty tales to tell And I am sure this guitar has some of those too…
This is a late 1953 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop with the perfect neck angle straight from the factory. It is all original bar a refret. A couple of issues are the serial number has had some damage and is only just readable but you can still make it out and the jack socket plate has caved in a bit but is still more than usable.
According to one of the previous owners the story behind the serial number is there used to be a store decal on the back of the headstock and in fact you can see the remains of it if you look there. Back in the 90’s the guitar was taken to Guitar Centre with a view to them purchasing it, they could not see the serial number under the decal which was now stubbornly fixed so one of the techs used a sharp implement to try to dig around it and caused the mess you see in the pics. If you look carefully you will see the serial number on there and I think it is 3 6352.
Guitar plays real well on it’s newer frets that are only just a bit larger than what would normally be on there from factory and whoever did the fret job, did it really well. All hardware is correct as is the electronics including the creamy sounding double P-90 vintage pickups.
It has a nice low action and there is plenty room at the wrap tail bridge to bring it down all the way to touching the fingerboard so there are no issues there!
Finish is all original with no touch ups or overspray and had aged itself to perfection. In my opinion it looks totally classic in it’s current state and is just about the right amount of ageing and checking you would want. Top has a nice deep dish carve too ands visually, this guitar is just pure vintage candy.
Included is the correct brown 4 latch case with the pick lining and a few old stickers on there to give it some character. There is also a Gibson stamped envelope with a postmark on 1953 containing absolutely nothing whatsoever, but it is still a cool thing to have.
Final thing is it is so light. Hardly touching 3.4Kg you can barely notice it on your shoulder (for a Les Paul) so if your back health is important to you, this would be a cool guitar to own…
