This is THE quintessential 50's Goldtop look that everyone strives for and the ONLY place you will find this unique and stunning look is by buying an original 1950's LP Goldtop. This one is a bit of a bargain...
Sorry, this item was sold out.
Iconic looks and tone, here is our 1953 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop.
This guitar simply oozes mojo. All correct bar a re-fret, changed capacitor and a well repaired neck break, if Goldtops are your thing this might be the one for you.
The minor headstock crack has been well repaired making it almost invisible with some touchup around the repaired area. Re-fretted with some bigger frets, by the looks of them probably from the 60’s, the work has been perfectly executed with virtually no tearing or tool marks though the nibs have been lost. There is also some repair to the binding on the bass side too.
Elsewhere you can see that this guitar has seen some life. The gold top has greened a little and the paint has been worn through to the top but this only adds to the fantastic look of this guitar. The back too has the expected wear.
All hardware is correct and the plastics are in good shape considering. There has been some reflowing of solder in the cavity and the neck capacitor has been replaced with a Sprague Black Beauty at some stage, but all pots are correct. There is evidence by larger washer marks on the front of the headstock other tuners have been on a long time ago, but no extra holes are visible on the back.
Case is original brown, 4 latch Lifton type with the classic pink lining and I have no reason to doubt this is the case the guitar came with from new.
The sound from both those P-90 pickups is why we clamour for these guitar when they come up. The neck is both creamy and hairy when the gain goes up whilst the bridge delivers enough bite to cut through. Tonal nirvana no doubt, why would you need anything else.
With looks like this and tone to match, this guitar will not be hanging around for long. Yes its had a headstock crack, a refret and some slight electronic repairs but its a small price to pay for this iconic tone machine. If you don’t pull the trigger, someone else will.
