All original, first year Les Paul Standard which aside from some checking is in near MINT condition and also plays with reasonable ease too..
Sorry, this item was sold out.
This is a first year, Gibson Les Paul Standard that is clean, all original and has it’s very nice brown Geib case included. It is also playable despite it’s infamous low neck angle and if you are a Les Paul collector how could you not have a first year Les Paul in your collection…
A very nice guitar that aside from some lacquer checking I would describe as near MINT. It is way cleaner than the vast majority of these you see out there and has no issues with the finish, no touch ups and in fact, zero issues anywhere.
It has it’s infamous trapeze tailpiece design that the strings wrap under so string muting in it’s present form can be a little awkward, but not impossible. The action as it stands is playable, but if you want it super low, anyone buying one of these will surely fit it with a MojoAxe replacement tailpiece part that engages the strings properly, lowers the action and provides a degree of compensation from its saddle. This can all be fitted without destroying it’s originality which is important on a such a fine example such as this.
However, this one is OK as it stands actually, probably not for speed metal but a few people use these as they are and get some very cool results. Check out Robert Plant’s guitarist.
Everything I can see on this is completely original, down to the very last screw. It has a few minor dings in places and some lacquer checking but aside from that it is really is a fab specimen.
Hardly any wear on the original frets and very little wear on the beautiful, dark fingerboard that most of these early mid 50’s Les Pauls seem to have. All hardware is correct as is all the plastic, knobs etc. Even the case is in great shape and has that very cool ‘Geib’ brass logo on the underside of the case pocket (see pictures).
This is a relatively early version having no serial number and the hex tuner washers.
I like this one, it is one of the more ‘playable’ 52’s I have had here and it has a great vibe to it as well. Even smells the part and anyone who handles vintage guitars will know exactly the pleasant flavour of cologne I am referring to…
