1972 (circa) Original Sola Sound Tone Bender - One Owner!
This is a superb example which we recently acquired from its original owner last week.
His memory is not so good (see next paragraph) but he thinks he bought it in Macari's in 1972 however gong by certain features, we think this may be 1974. He has had this pedal from new and really looked after it well.
He used to play on cruise ships during the 70's and 80's and told us this pedal was perfect for smuggling in certain substances that he could later smoke to relieve the boredom of the long cruises... He even took the trouble to demonstrate to us how easy this was. Yes, we really love our customers!
You probably wont find a better example if you are looking for one of these and it is a lot of fun when you plug it in. 'Satisfaction' guaranteed.
If you have not heard of the Tone Bender then here is some AI guff for you -
The Sola Sound Tone Bender is one of the most iconic fuzz pedals in music history, credited with defining the searing, saturated tones that shaped the sound of 1960s and early 1970s rock and psychedelic music. Designed and manufactured in the mid-1960s by Sola Sound in London, the Tone Bender quickly became a favourite among guitarists for its rich, aggressive fuzz and remarkable sustain.
The original Tone Bender design was heavily influenced by the Gibson Maestro Fuzz-Tone, but it offered more gain and a thicker, more harmonically complex sound. Early versions, such as this, featured a simple circuit with three germanium transistors, delivering a raw and gritty fuzz that responded beautifully to the dynamics of the player's touch.
Artists such as Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and Mick Ronson helped solidify the Tone Bender's legendary status by using it to craft some of the most memorable tones in rock history. The pedal’s sound could range from a smooth, violin-like sustain to a snarling, gritty attack, making it versatile enough for soaring leads or thick, textured rhythm parts.
The Tone Bender remains a sought-after pedal for vintage tone enthusiasts and collectors and this one owner example is in superb condition.
It won't hang around....
