The forearm area has worn right through to the maple top in places, and the whole guitar has clearly seen its fair share of gigs and studios over the years, with all of that history written into the finish. It's hard to imagine a cooler looking example!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eConstruction is classic early-’70s Gibson: 3-piece Mahogany neck, sandwich body, volute and “Made in USA” stamp. The serial number points to 1969, while the spec and pot dates place it to 1970.\u003cbr\u003eThe slim\/medium C profile neck has been refretted and feels very good to play. The tuners have been changed to Gibson Deluxe with single ring tulip tips, and strap lock buttons have also been fitted. Otherwise, the hardware remains nicely correct, including the Patent No. chrome bridge and saddles.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt retains its Patent No. mini-humbuckers along with two correct Sprague Black Beauty capacitors. The pots all appear correct, although some of the codes are beneath solder; one partially legible code dates to 1970. The knobs and switch tip have been changed and the pickguard removed, revealing a rather pleasing \"tan line.\"\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe mini-humbuckers have plenty of clarity and bite, with a tighter, more focused response than a full-size humbucker but still with enough warmth and weight. Paired with this guitar’s well-played-in feel, it makes for a very lively, characterful instrument that is a joy to play.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAll in all, this is a fantastic early Les Paul Deluxe with the kind of naturally aged Goldtop finish that is rarely seen in this era.
