1967-epiphone-e-212t-sheraton-cherry
1967 Epiphone E-212T Sheraton, Cherry

A very cool Kalamazoo-built 1967 Epiphone E-212T Sheraton, finished in Cherry.

The Sheraton sat at the top end of Epiphone’s thinline range, with a level of ornamentation and appointment that placed it close to Gibson’s ES-355 in look and feel. This is an excellent example, with its slightly faded Cherry finish, worn gold hardware and factory Epiphone Tremotone vibrato.

Condition-wise, this is a nice honest example with no breaks or repairs. There is some binding discolouration and degradation, as is often seen on these, but it remains secure overall. The original frets and nut are still in place, adding to the guitar’s originality and feel.

The neck is comfortable and familiar, measuring 41mm at the nut, with a depth of 21.3mm at the 1st fret and 24.3mm at the 12th. It plays well and has the slightly slimmer feel you would expect from a mid-’60s Epiphone/Gibson thinline.

Hardware is correct, with the gold-plated Gibson ABR-1 wired bridge, factory Epiphone Tremotone vibrato and gold Pat Pend Grover tuners all present. The worn gold plating suits the guitar beautifully and adds to its overall character.

Electrically, the guitar retains its correct mini humbuckers, with a Patent Number sticker bridge pickup and a matching neck pickup missing its Patent sticker. The cover solder appears intact, and the pickups read 6.97k at the bridge and 6.81k at the neck.

Tonally, it has that articulate mini-humbucker voice which is clear, focused and chimey, with enough warmth to feel full but with plenty of definition and bite. The Tremotone adds another creative option, making this a very expressive and enjoyable vintage thinline.

A very cool, high spec vintage Epiphone with no breaks or repairs and plenty of classic Kalamazoo character! Comes with a hard shell case.
