early 1970’s Simms Watts AP100 Mk1 100 watt head anyone?

Formed in 1968 by David Simms and Richard Watts and working out of Simms’ Ealing Road Shop, Simms Watts sought to build high calibre amplifiers using the best quality components. They also designed their amps to run an incredible plate voltage of over 600 volts in Ultra-Linear mode, gaining as much clean headroom before distortion as possible thus giving them their unique tone.

The amp is in good condition. The tolex shows some signs of wear and there are a few tears, as you’d expect for a well used amp. Having said that its in very good overall condition, all knobs and plastics are in good shape.

Internally everything is correct and all solder joint look to have been left un-disturbed. Both transformers are correct

Everything that’s been written about these amps is so very true. This head has exquisite headroom and clarity with a warmth that is so uniquely British, quite a way from Marshall. Sounds stunning with either guitar or bass, no wonder it was favoured by John Entwistle. Amp runs relatively quietly and sounds great at any volume.

From a a very fertile time in the history of British amplification, this head is a a must for those of you out there looking for a pedal platform or something a bit different. A true piece of guitar history.
