In 1958, the Junior underwent a major change when Gibson switched to a double cutaway body, making this example among the very last of the original single-cut incarnation.
This guitar shows a vibrant Sunburst finish over its solid mahogany body and neck, paired with a rosewood fingerboard. The sunburst remains rich and striking with very little fade, complemented by attractive lacquer checking across the surface. Overall condition is excellent, with only minor dings, light buckle wear on the back, and small edge chips to the headstock. The silkscreen logo is intact, the serial number remains bold, and the guitar retains a clean, authentic look throughout. Importantly, it is completely original with no modifications or changed parts, a rarity for a working instrument of this vintage.
The big neck profile is classic 1958 - full and substantial in the hand, but offering a natural supportiveness that makes it as comfortable as it is solid. Tonally, the single P-90 pickup delivers the raw, punchy and direct voice that made the Junior a legend, full of bite when pushed but wonderfully responsive to the player’s touch. Acoustically it rings out loudly with excellent resonance - a reflection of the quality tonewoods used at the time, that have no doubt improved with age.
This guitar comes housed in its original crocodile cardboard case, still in good shape but with a replacement DIY handle.
For the collector, this represents an excellent opportunity to get a clean, original example of one of the last single-cut Juniors made before it's redesign. The tone that started it all.
In 2012, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Marshall, Gibson and Marshall collaborated to produce a short run of 50 Goldtop Les Pauls, aged by Tom Murphy, and hand-wired Model 1962 Bluesbreaker combos.
The amps are all handwired, with the team at Marshall going to great lengths to source the original components. Drake Transformers were given the original plans and built some to the same specifications as did Celestion, who made a short run of aluminum chassis for the speakers as per the originals. Aesthetically Marshall also contacted the original manufacturers of the grill cloth and had them produce some of the amp.
The guitars were each aged by Tom Murphy himself, the specifications of each following as closely as possible those of the original design. A Marshall logo is inlaid at the 12th fret with Jim Marshall’s signature on the trussrod cover.
We have here number 22 of the run of 50, one of only 15 sets that came to the UK.
Both pieces are in as new condition, the Marshall comes with its original packaging.

Here is what was written at the time…

Gibson 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop
Based on the highly sought-after Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Reissue Goldtop, this guitar is one of a strictly limited run of 50 pieces worldwide, each one hand-aged by Tom Murphy.
The 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop begins with the iconic combination of a premium select lightweight one-piece mahogany body and a two-piece carved maple top for the perfect marriage of depth and clarity. The look of an original '50s Goldtop is captured in Gibson Custom's hand-sprayed nitrocellulose finish, and the entire guitar is then hand-aged by Tom Murphy to perfectly replicate the gently aged appearance of an original 1957 Les Paul.
Vintage-correct cream body binding is matched by a commemorative cream plastic pickguard hot-stamped with a "Marshall 50th" badge and a two-ply black-white truss rod cover hot-stamped with Jim Marshall’s signature. The one-piece, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is glued in with a long tenon for enhanced resonance and sustain and carved to a rounded ’50s profile that measures .900" at the first fret and 1.000" at the 12th. One of several period-correct details, the rosewood fingerboard carries 22 vintage reissue frets, tortoise side dots, a nylon 6/6 nut, and is trimmed with .004" cream binding and inlaid with nitrocellulose trapezoids, plus the iconic "Marshall" script logo gracing the 12th fret position. To make the 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop supremely playable, the neck is Plek'd at the factory for optimum action and playing feel.
With the look of a rare original 1957 Les Paul fully assured, Gibson Custom goes all out to give the 50th Anniversary of Marshall Les Paul Goldtop all the tone and performance of a prized vintage guitar. The BurstBucker 1 in the neck position and BurstBucker 2 in the bridge are made with genuine Alnico II magnets and wound with 42 AWG wire, with slightly mismatched coils, just like the legendary PAF humbuckers of the late '50s, for a characteristic edge and complexity that is unmatched by modern humbucking pickups.

Marshall Limited Edition 1962 Bluesbreaker 50th Anniversary Combo
Based on the JTM45, the handwired limited edition 1962 Bluesbreaker is regarded as the definitive 60s Marshall. This example just oozes mojo. The sunburst looks great but it has been refinished as it would have originally been gold. It does seem that the body has been over sprayed at some stage. Apart from that there is very little wear to the top. The back of the 2 piece ‘pancake’ body shows some sign of use with some buckle rash evident.
The three piece mahogany neck (soon to be changed to maple in 1975) shows very little signs of wear. Anywhere.
These first generation, early ES-335’s are really something quite special. The combination of the thin top and the PAF pickups is pretty magical and together with a beautiful round, chunky-ish neck and unbound fingerboard it really is one guitar to consider being at the top of your hit list and this is probably the nicest one you will see.
This is an early, 1958 Gibson ES-335 TD in a very strong, excellent plus condition. It has a beautiful dark sunburst, pre Micky Mouse ears and is one of the early ones with an unbound fingerboard. There are estimated to be only around 150 of these early versions made.
It is serial number A28098 with a FON number of T 4893 26 and has a brown Lifton 5 latch case with pink lining plus all the lovely case candy you see pictured. Both (double black) PAF pickups have never been opened and all solder we can see on the pots etc is totally undisturbed. It has a very good neck angle with a full height ABR-1 bridge and a really nice action just as it is.
It is a joy to play even though the bridge is flat on the top, I cannot imagine that anyone would want the action any lower but if you do, you will have to shave the bottom of that ABR-1 a tad.
Everything about this lovely guitar sings. You barely need an amplifier as it is so resonant acoustically and if we ever get round to doing a video, I will record it acoustically too so you can hear yourselves. The neck is just beautiful and feels perfect. Frets are original and in superb shape with just s small amount of play wear.
Aside from a few dings on the edge of the headstock, the guitar looks to be near MINT - have a look at the photos and you will see what I mean. A strong vibrant finish with no buckle rash and hardly any wear on the back of the neck or fingerboard.
There is none of the usual cracking around the jack socket on the first layer of ply, just a small amount of checking in that area. Rest of the guitar has zero checking and still retains that shiny new look. Almost time capsule in appearance.
All hardware is correct, including the long guard, single line Kluson tuners with tips in perfect shape (they did not start to rot until a year later) and the short seam tailpiece. The PAF’s have been unopened and are both strong and balanced with readings at 7.6k and 7.8k. The pots are the correct style Centralab 500k with bumble bee caps and all plastic, rings, knobs switch tip are correct.
This is probably the finest ES-335 for sale right now and a rare sight over here. An excellent example of Gibson heritage, the guitar is testament to the quality of the high-end instruments Gibson was producing as the post-war era met the 1950’s.Introduced in 1922 and developed by Lloyd Loar the L-5 was the first guitar by any manufacturer to combine a carved top and back, f-holes, an adjustable truss rod and a neck that joined the body at the 14th fret. Part of the Master Model series of instruments the L-5 would remain the flagship guitar for Gibson until the release of the Super 400 in 1935. Early examples had a 16-inch body with the neck joining at the 14th fret, constructed from two sections of maple with a dark center seam, the "Snake head" headstock design was bound and inlaid with a diagonal "The Gibson" logo and Gibson's iconic flowerpot motif in pearl. The finest Spruce was reserved for the soundboard and the backs and sides were a mixture of Maple and Birch. As a high end, professional grade instrument the L-5 would undergo many changes in the following years, constantly evolving as players' needs necessitated evolving from the original 16-inch wide, non-cutaway design, through to the 17-inch "Advanced" model in 1934 to the use of the longer 25-½ inch scale length that became a permanent feature in 1938, on to the Venetian cutaway equipped L-5 Premier in 1939 and finally the L-5 went electric with L-5CES in 1951. Shipped in 1949, this example would have been one of the earlier L-5's to bear the L-5C title with the evolution from L-5 Premier happening in 1948. Featuring a 17” body with uniformly grained Spruce top, large bound F holes and 5-ply edge binding, figured curly Maple back, rims and neck. Internally as expected the guitar has parallel spruce top braces. The two piece Maple neck has a dark center lamination and unusually for an L5 a bound Rosewood fingerboard. It was during this period that Gibson suffered an Ebony shortage and other examples of Rosewood L-5s can be seen in 1948 and 1949. The neck otherwise follows Gibsons post-war convention with a bound headstock that features an intricately inlayed pearl flowerpot inlay and large Gibson script logo that had recently been discontinued and replaced by the then-new, now-familiar modern block logo on some models. The fingerboard is inlayed with large Pearl block inlays. The tuners are gold-plated Kluson Sealfasts with translucent celluloid Keystone buttons, a feature in place since 1940. The tailpiece is the non-hinged adjustable L-5 Vari-Tone tailpiece found on the L-5 from 1939. Gibson's records show only 23 sunburst L-5C shipped in 1949. The guitars serial number - A-3483 places the instruments production into the later part of the year. The original 5-ply cellulose tortoise pickguard, although supplied with the guitar has 'off-gassed' so the guitar comes with an excellent reproduction pickguard from Paul Fox at Fox Guitars fitted to the original bracket. The guitar is in great condition structurally and cosmetically, it plays very well with good geometry and decent height to the dressed frets. The paper thin finish shows signs of use with dings, dents and scrapes throughout but nothing to detract from the appearance of a near 75 year old guitar. The finish has aged to a wonderful amber hue and the gold hardware has softened most notably to the tailpiece. The fast, slim neck shows wear to the lacquer from use, with a contemporary feeling oval profile it has a nut width of 43.09 and a 1st fret depth of 22.97mm. The guitar has a lively percussive voice, well balanced and with plenty of presence it has a clear, crisp and dry tone equally suited for rhythm as well as melody lines. The guitar comes with the photographed, highly desirable Geib 'Airline Tweed' Case. The run continued intro 1984 Now 40 years old, the guitar is a fantastic example in wonderful original condition. The Bridge is a no-wire Patent Tune-o-Matic with plated saddles.
Plastics are in equally good condition with the black, wide bevel pickguard, truss rod cover and bonnet knobs mirroring the type used in ’58. For humbucking pickups these highly regarded pickups were Gibsons earliest attempt at reissuing the original 50’s PAF designed by pickup guru Tim Shaw. Pot source codes are solder obscured but everything looks clean and untouched under the hood. The guitar is a great player, featherweight at 6.5lbs with a lively resonant acoustic voice. The V shape and Korina wood combination offer something different tonally with a sweet, high end sparkle to the acoustic and amplified voice. Released in 1953 as a response to Fender releasing the Precision Bass in 1951 the two instruments couldn’t have been farther apart with the now iconic Violin shape thanks in part to Les Paul. The Gibson EB-1 bass shipped for just five years between 1953 and 1958, with 526 basses produced before being replaced with the new Thinlline EB-2 model. The EB-1 was briefly reissued between 1970 and 1973 with a further 473 shipped. Designed to appeal to the traditional bass player who may be hesitant to adopt the new form of playing bass. Gibson even included a telescopic stand (missing from this example) that would fit into the bottom strap button, that would allow you to play the bass standing up.
Featuring a solid mahogany body, carved from a single piece of Mahogany with a Mahogany set neck, Rosewood fingerboard and a natural Mahogany finish. The EB would also feature a short (30.5”) scale length. The original EB bass had a single coil pickup that was designed by Gibson engineers Walter Fuller and Seth Lover. The coil had 250000 turns, and was so large, it was rotated to fit in the route, explaining why the polepieces were along one edge, rather than in the center.
Appointments were on a par with Gibsons’s mid-level solid body guitars with dot-position markers, nickel plated hardware and single-ply plastics. A bound Rosewood fingerboard with pearl dots and a Pearl inlayed Headstock logo complete the traditional Gibson Special appointments. The serial number range is for 1970-1972 but the lack of Volute and Made in USA stamp to the rear of the headstock indicate a very late ’69/early 70 production date. SG’s from this period features the revised heel joint, five-ply ‘Batwing’ pickguard and Witch hat knobs that define the SG though the second half of the sixties and into the early seventies.
This guitar has had some changes along the way and as well as the stop tail conversion the tuners were at some point changed but it is now sporting correct period replacements with drew holes plugged. It currently has a reproduction Tailpiece and short Vibrola fitted now it has reverted back to its original spec with the bonus that the new bridge-tailpiece is intoned for a plain G string. The most recognisable chance comes in the form of a pair of period Gibson Humbuckers fitted. Thanks to the production of the SG model during this period there was no need to route the body underneath the pickguard. The pickups themselves are a Gibsons Patent Sticker Humbuckers dating from the late sixties/ early seventies. The chrome covers have been replaced with Nickel ones but there is no reason to believe the pickups have been re-wound. A great looking guitar that with the exception of a like-for-like replacement Bridge is in excellent, original condition. First shipped in the very early 70’s the Les Paul Deluxe would replace the Les Paul Standard that itself had only just been reissued in 1968. In essence the Deluxe was very similar to the 1969 Standard with the Mini-Humbucker pickups replacing the P-90 pickups of the Standard. Initially released only in Goldtop finish, the Deluxe would be offered in numerous other finishes as the decade progressed. The Deluxe was a good seller for Gibson and remained in the catalogue until the 1980’s and has subsequently been recently reissued. This early ‘80s model is a great example in fantastic original condition. The serial number dates the guitar to 1981 and the guitar has all the traits to conform with this. By the 1980’s the Deluxe had lost the ‘pancake’ body it was associated with in the Seventies. The now 3-piece maple neck contrasts visually with the Mahogany body. The rosewood fingerboard is inlayed with Trapezoid inlays. The headstock is still the larger style utilised by Gibson from the late-sixties onwards.
The headstock has an impressed serial number with a ‘Made in USA’ stamp below. There is a small volute as the headstock transitions into the neck. The Natural finish is in great condition throughout. Natural was offered from 1975 onwards but with less than 500 produced the finish is amongst the rarest produced during the Deluxe's initial run.
Electronics comprise of two excellent sounding original PAT stamped Mini-humbuckers with ink codes, a full set of CTS pots dating to 1981 and two ceramic caps. The bridge is a new replacement Gibson Nashvile ABR. Tuners are the Gibson branded type used through this period of production. Some of the shafts are bent but the tuners all function as intended. The guitar retains its original frets with binding nibs present. The guitar plays nicely with a low fast action. The neck is the traditional seventies oval Les Paul profile with bit more depth than the early seventies guitars. Offered in three options and produced in a limited quantity of only 350 guitars – 250 received Gibson Custom’s patented V.O.S. finish, 50 were aged to look exactly like the original Pearly Gates, and a further 50 were aged and personally signed and played by Gibbons himself. This is a superb example of one of the 50 Aged models.
Having been given unrivalled access to the original instrument, every detail was scrutinised from the carefully matched highly figured Maple top to the accurately faded sunburst finish. This model is arguably one of the most sought after and highly prized Artist instruments Gibson Custom has ever produced.
From the original Gibson listing:
“The new Billy Gibbons ‘Pearly Gates’ Les Paul is as close as it gets to owning the real thing. And it all starts with the traditional marriage of select tonewoods that make up Pearly Gates’ body – a solid, non-weight relieved mahogany back topped with a hand-carved figured maple top that was carefully selected especially for Gibbons’ Pearly Gates model. The maple tops from the late 1950s and early 1960s remain one of the Les Paul’s most distinguishing features, and the tops selected for the Billy Gibbons ‘Pearly Gates’ are as beautiful and figured as the one that adorns the original. Single-ply cream binding surrounds the top of each guitar, helping to protect its edges but also adding a touch of elegance that remains a fundamental part of Gibson’s rich guitar-making history.”
“One of the more storied aspects of Gibson’s legendary Les Pauls of the late 1950s were the variations of the initial Billy Gibbons Burst finishes applied to them. Because of an inconsistency in the initial batch of red paint, the finished color had a tendency to fade when exposed to the elements. Of course, the amount of fading was determined by each guitar’s exposure to the elements, resulting in several improbable variations of the same finish. On Billy Gibbons’ celebrated Pearly Gates, the finish has darkened somewhat around the edges, but the beautiful grain of the figured maple top comes through prominently all the way around the guitar. The master craftsmen at Gibson Custom have successfully recreated this subtle variation on the new Billy Gibbons ‘Pearly Gates’ Les Paul, even down to the original’s distinct red mahogany back. Granted, no two guitars can ever possibly have exactly the same top and finish. But this may be as close as it gets.”
The story of how Gibbons acquired ‘Pearly Gates’ is almost as famous as the guitar itself. As told by the Reverend Willie G. himself, the story begins in the late 1960s with an old, beat up Packard automobile that used to be ZZ Top’s main ride – all three of them and their entourage. “That automobile served us well,” Gibbons said. “It was huge, flashy and lowered, but not intentionally – it was just, plain old.” Not long after getting the Packard, one of band’s “girlfriends” decided to head to California to try out for a part in a movie, and the band was kind enough to let her use the Packard to get there.

According to legend, she landed the part, and the band christened the car with the name "Pearly Gates" because they thought “it must have had divine connections.” At some point, the girlfriend sold the car and sent the money back to the band. “The very day the money arrived, a guy called me up wanting to sell me a ’59 Sunburst Les Paul,” Gibbons reflected. “I bought the guitar and called the girlfriend to thank her for being so kind. She said, ‘It looks like the car went for a good cause. Since the money that put the guitar in our lap came from selling the Packard, we'll lay claim to the name Pearly Gates. Now you can go make divine music.’ Try as I may, I haven't been able to find another guitar that sounds as heavenly.” And that’s the legend of Gibbons’ storied ‘Pearly Gates’ Les Paul. Gibson’s 1959 Les Paul Standards may be the Holy Grail of electric solid body guitars, but Gibbons’ ‘Pearly Gates’ may be the most desirable of all.

Wonderful early 60’s Gibson J-200 resplendent in its original Sunburst finish. A cherished instrument that has been played and feels perfectly broken in, it has been modified with a Stratocaster pickup much like a J-160e and a single volume control on the upper bout. The perfect players J-200!
The J-200 is Gibsons flagship, top of the range flat top acoustic guitar. It made its first appearance in 1937 initially called the Super Jumbo, changing early to the Super Jumbo 200. The retail price was $200 with very few examples shipped, the ledgers show that only 25 left the factory in 1938. Early pre-war examples featured rosewood back and sides. Production of the Super Jumbo 200 ceased during the Second World War as Gibson scaled down manufacture and upon its re-release in 1947 the specification had changed mainly to the back and sides changing from Rosewood to figured Maple with Natural finish becoming an option in 1948.
Constantly evolving the 1950’s would see the SJ-200 body depth increase to 4 7/8” in 1952 and in 1955 the model name was shortened to J-200. By 1961 the J-200 would receive a gold Tune-o-matic adjustable bridge with a newly designed ‘closed’ moustache bridge and 1963 would see the introduction of a five piece laminated neck.
This fantastic guitar dates to 1963 and is one of only 163 shipped that year. It features a straight grain Sitka spruce top, the Maple back and sides are highly figured as is the wood selected for the five piece maple neck. The bound ‘stinger’ headstock features a pearl inlayed Gibson Logo and Crown inlay. The bound Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is inlayed with Pearl Crest position markers and the Pearl inlayed Rosewood bridge has had the ABR-1 replaced with a well made rosewood fillet with traditional saddle. Tuners are gold plated Kluson Wafflebacks.
The original Sunburst finish looks great, there is wear throughout but nothing to detract from the guitars overall appearance and if anything adds to the guitars cool factor. There is one minor area of DIY touch up on the bass side of the neck by the first fret.
The guitar feels great in use, the neck has the perfect slim to medium early 60’s profile with a depth at the first fret of 20.8mm increasing to 23.37mm at the 7th fret. The nut has a width of 42.8mm. The guitar sounds excellent, a great singer- strummer but also sweet when fingerpicked or flat picked. This one has a bigger voice than some J-200 can especially in the low end. The Stratocaster pickup works surprisingly well offering an alternative to the standard Acoustic pickup options. We think the addition is cool, the guitar was adapted for use with no fear of affecting its value but if the future owner wanted the mod remedied its a cosmetic repair most luthiers would be able to fix and achieve a great result.
The guitar plays well in the first position it is worth advising that the action does increase to just over 3.5mm at the 12th fret and depending on the next owners preference a neck re-set may want to be considered.
The guitar comes with a well fitted modern case.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0917/7258/4275/files/dsc00614_e9182958-1b2a-487c-955f-9806aab89e2c.jpg?v=1762539186
1965-gibson-es-175-dn-natural-50s-hsc
1965 Gibson ES-175 DN, Natural + 50s HSC

Stunning 1965 Gibson ES-175DN in rare, natural finish. Selected for its weight, this is one of the lightest non-chambered Gibson Custom Les Paul's we have had in the shop sitting at 8.3lbs; about as light as it gets for a Les Paul. It also has a very authentic looking top with a really attractive ribbon-like flame.
The neck carve feels great in the hand, it is a large neck but the profile is more refined than some of the earlier ’58 Reissue necks can be. Measurements are 23.79mm at the 1st fret and 25.62mm at the 12 fret. The nut measures 43.11mm. Gibson CustomBuckers are consistently good sounding pickups but they sound particularly good in this guitar providing some of the closest PAF like tones we’ve had out of a reissue Les Paul. The guitar has a loud acoustic voice and plays effortlessly in part thanks to the guitar's very light weight.
When amplified the guitar really comes alive, its loud, zingy acoustic voice translates into a chiming and open bridge pickup with presence and a hollow PAF like honk. Initially only offered in natural Mahogany it would be released in White (from mid-1975), Cherry Sunburst (from mid-1976) and Ebony and Walnut (from 1978).
This guitar dates to 1972 and is a great players example. It has a repaired headstock that helps keep the price keen. It's a very versatile instrument allowing lots of control and tone shaping from the simple set up with a Master Volume and Bass and Treble knobs. The Decade Control is an eleven position rotary switch that tunes or alters the treble harmonics producing "biting" or "silky" highs with simplicity. The slide switches control phase and whether the guitar is in Hi or Lo Impedance mode. The three-way pickup selector switch works as expected and the tone selector switch acts as a bypass, inactivating certain controls allowing quick and reversible changes between different settings. Internally the components are correct and appear original but there has been some re-flowed solder and date codes are obscured.
Cosmetically the guitar is in good condition with some minor wear to the body and the aforementioned headstock repair. Strung with 11’s it plays great on the original factory frets. The nut looks to be a well cut replacement.
All in an this ids an interesting, leftfield model from an experimental period of production at Gibson. If you're looking for something a little different that sounds excellent, has a lot of intuitive, versatile sounds on tap and plays very well this is a great option. The guitar comes with its correct, early seventies Gibson case.
