Antanas Kazimeras Žemaitis, or Tony to those who knew him, came from humble beginnings to be the go to guy in the burgeoning music scene in London of the late 60s and 70s, building guitars for the likes of Ronnie Wood, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and George Harrison. His guitars have been seen and heard all over the world, his craftsmanship lorded by those who’ve been lucky to own one of his creations, a man whose uncompromising vision has left a legacy that continues long after his death.

This guitar is the product of an agreement entered into between Japanese corporation Kanda Shokai and the Zemaitis family following  Tony’s death in 2002 to ensure continued production of Zemaitis Guitars. The high-end range of AC Zemaitis guitars were made in small numbers in a Japanese custom shop, while Greco versions, licensed from a newly established company, Zemaitis International, were more affordable and made in higher numbers. This particular example had resided in the Zemaitis Museum in Japan until purchased in 2021.

The guitar is in stunning condition. There is a slight mark to the satin finish in the lower bout which you can see in the pictures but otherwise the guitar is mark free. The natural satin finish let s the color of the honduran mahogany shine.

The neck is in equally great condition. The ebony board is mark free and the frets look to be unplayed.

The hardware is free of any tarnishing and really captures the look and aesthetic of the original Zemaitis design without being unnecessarily showy. The knobs currently fitted to the guitar were fitted by the current owner as they are more akin to those fitted to the original guitars in the 70s. The correct knobs are included with the sale.

Electrically nothing has been altered with a pair of Di Marzio Custom PAFs in situe.

The guitar comes with its correct hardshell case and tags.

All mahogany construction, set neck and PAF style pickups…you can guess how this is going to go! THis guitar is a joy to play with an excellent sustain and the Di MArzio pickups yield a plethora of lush tones. And no one is going to miss you with this around your neck.

These new Zemaitis guitars are a testament to the man and his legacy and are worthy of carrying the name. Grab it before it gets away…
