From the Bernie Marsden Collection, this Chris O’Dee Flying V replica was presented to Bernie by his close friend Jim Singleton. The guitar is featured on page 57 of Bernie's book 'Tales of Tone and Volume', a copy of which will be included with this sale.
Chris O’Dee’s work can be seen in the hands of players such as Billy Gibbons and Sheryl Crow. Chris trades under Retro Guitars, based in Pataskala in Ohio.
This guitar is in great shape. The grain of the Korina used is stunning and excellently showcased here. There’s no real sign of wear and there are only minor marks.
The neck is in great shape, the finish is still glossy, the fretboard is unmarked and there is plenty of life left in the original frets.
Hardware shows only slight signs of wear which suggests very little use.
Plastics are in great shape as you’d expect.
Electrically all of the solder joints look to have been undisturbed
The guitar comes in a 90’s Gibson hardshell case
Once you’ve figured out comfortable way to hold the guitar (possible suggestion would be to skip the sitting down and stick it on a strap, one foot up on the monitor) we’re in familiar Gibson territory, especially to those of you who’ve wrangled an SG, albeit with a bit more wood to contend with. Easy access to the whole neck, the Gibson USA humbuckers delivering a solid rock tone.
Iconic design, there's surely a space for a Flying V in any collection…
