1972 Harmony H-420 Bass, Burgundy

An absolute gem of an affordable vintage bass. This one is in excellent, original condition with little sign of wear and just the right amount of lacquer checking and finish fading for a cool vintage look. To the people who know, Harmony instruments are some of the coolest and "vibey-ist" affordable vintage pieces around. Lots of character, desirable pickups, reinforced necks and simple understated appointments.
This is quite a rare model and not something we see too often here at ATB. Featuring a double cutaway, semi-hollow, double bound body with two f-holes, a bolt on full scale length neck and two killer DeArmond Gold Foil pickups, the H-420 is Harmony's answer to the Gibson EB-2 at a considerably lower price point! The two pickups marketed as "GoldenTone" are DeArmond made GoldFoil single coils with individually adjustable pole pieces. Harmonically you get quite a strong fundamental with this bass, and a smooth, mellow sound that when paired with flatwounds offers a fantastic tone for soul and blues music with enough versatility from the controls to give you a few options in the bag.
It plays very well - the slim profile, reinforced neck is straight and true, the setup is good and the action is comfortable. Condition wise it's in excellent shape with very little sign of wear and use. It functions well and looks great - the Burgundy finish has faded slightly and paired with the white plastics it makes for a very classy looking bass.
Vintage tones on a budget, this is one USA made bargain!
