1970 Gibson SG Standard, Cherry + OHSC
Player grade, batwing pickguard, early 1970 SG Standard refinished in Cherry with no breaks. Tonally, the guitar excels thanks to the original Pat. No. humbuckers, the neck pickup delivering a smooth, PAF-like tone with plenty of warmth and a subtle growl, ideal for rhythm playing and lead work alike. The bridge pickup provides sharp bite and definition, delivering that signature SG cut – perfect for rock, blues, and classic tones.
The refinish has been expertly done, and the guitar's hardware is in excellent shape. The Kluson double-line, double-ring tuners are correct for the period and function well, though there are additional holes visible from previous tuners that were installed.
The electronics are original, with pots dating to 1970, though many of the source codes are partly obscured. All wiring appears correct, and the correct orange drop caps have been retained. There is no volute and no 'Made in USA' making this a very early 1970 build.
The neck has a chunky C-profile that provides a comfortable grip, offering plenty of substance without feeling too bulky. It works well with the slimmer nut width making the neck feel fast and easy to navigate.
Included is the original purple lined, oblong hard case.
Overall, this 1970 Gibson SG Standard delivers exceptional playability and vintage tone. While it has undergone a refinish, it retains its original sonic characteristics and remains a highly playable, enjoyable guitar. The combination of vintage specs, excellent neck profile, and classic Gibson humbucker tone makes this a standout player grade instrument!
