1967 Epiphone Casino Pelham Blue + OHSC - Pretty Rare!
We love Custom Colours here at ATB Guitars and when we found this guitar it was a no brainer! In fact this is the only Pelham blue Casino we have ever seen…
Made iconic by The Beatles and played by the likes of Keith Richards, Paul Weller and Otis Rush, the Epiphone Casino is held in high regard. Often seen in sunburst and cherry along the lines of its cousin the ES-330, a few where produced in custom colours in very limited numbers. Many of these colours didn’t survive so well which makes this guitar so special.
What struck us about this guitar was the overall condition. Custom colours often suffer from the effects of environment with blues turning a green hue due to the yellowing of the clear coat. Here, although there has been some yellowing over time, the effect isn’t as pronounced. You can see the original colour where clear coat has worn. In fact just before our acquisition of this amazing guitar it won an award for ‘Best Guitar of the Show’ in a vintage guitar show on mainland Europe.
Aside from a few dinks here and there, the body and binding are in fantastic shape. The neck too is superb, the colour here is vibrant and very little wear. The fretboard is free of excessive wear and the original frets have plenty of life left in them.
The hardware is all very clean and correct as are the electronics, the chrome covers of the P90s show no real signs of wear or pitting.
The guitar comes with its correct grey Epiphone 335 type, hardshell case with the blue lining which is also in mighty fine condition.
As you’d expect from a howllow body thinline guitar, there is plenty of acoustic volume here. The amplified tone is a little darker than you’d think but both pickups are well balanced with the P90s complimenting the body construction.
Seen in the hands of all kinds of musicians the Epiphone Casino is an iconic instrument and when combined with a custom colour in this condition you have quite a special prospect. Don’t let it get away especially in this super rare custom colour.
