1966 Fender Stratocaster, Sunburst + OHSC
An attractive 3-tone sunburst Strat with the early CBS era-defining big headstock, transition logo and white guard. The sunburst is vibrant with plenty of red remaining in the 3 tone. The Alder body is in good overall condition with marks and dings commensurate with age, and overall this is a great looking Strat.
Internally the guitar is original with a triplet of excellent sounding grey-bottom pickups pencil dated 3/10/66. We're big fans of this era pickup as they tend to give quite a weighty tone that is a little thicker than earlier versions. This guitar is no exception, with a tone that packs a punch with some bell like low mids and rounded top end sparkle.
All CTS pot source codes date to the 14th week of '65 and wiring a solder appears intact. The neck is stamped Feb66. Profile wise it has a wide/flat C profile with a fairly quick role-off to the shoulders and remaining slim towards the 12th fret. The guitar plays well with an unrestrictive, fairly fast neck.
All hardware is present and correct, with tarnishing in keeping with the overall condition. The tuners are the correct double line Klusons, the bridge is original with 6 pat pend saddles and the correct trem block loaded with 5 springs. The plastics are all correct but the volume knob is a period replacement. The trem plate has been repaired as has the pickguard on the tip towards the horn due to shrinkage.
Cool, original example complete with original case.
