1964 Fender Black Tweed Champ 5F1
August 1964 5F1 Fender Champ in Black Tolex.. probably one of the very last 5F1's to leave Fullerton.
A real survivor, the narrow panel tweed Champ sold in huge numbers, popular with students and professionals looking for that celebrated tweed tone in a compact package. Unlike its bigger brothers, the Champ remained almost entirely unchanged between 1955 and 1964, bringing the tweed era to a close.
This is a tweed 5F1 Champ in black Tolex instead of tweed which they only did in '63 and '64.
This is a fantastic example. Very clean with no damage to the tolex. The control panel is in great condition showing only slight signs of bubbling with the silk screened text still clear.
The amp is still fitted with its correct speaker. Internally some capacitors have been changed. The correct output transformer is still present as is the original, large bottle GEC rectifier tube!
As you’d hope, this amp sounds fantastic. With the volume set above half we’re straight into classic tweed territory and a sound that has to be heard to be believed. There is no doubt why this is such a lauded amp.
These don’t come up for sale very often in this clean condition and its been a while since we saw one this clean so grab it before it slips away…
