1963 Gibson Les Paul/SG Custom PAF's + OHSC

Three PAF loaded Les Paul/SG Custom from 1963 looking cool as anything in its naturally aged, original Polaris White finish.
This is an excellent example which has remained break and repair free despite clearly having been used and played throughout its life. The most striking thing is the way the white finish has aged, creating a much more mellowed, creamy colour which goes perfectly with the worn gold hardware. This is the type of look the guys in the Custom Shop strive for, but you just can't beat the real deal.
At the headstock we have the 5-ply bound peghead with split diamond inlay and block Gibson logo. It retains the correct gold Grover Pat Pend tuners that function well, there is some edge wear to the headstock wings and tip and the typical signs of breaks in the finish between binding and neck towards the nut and at the fingerboard end. The guitar retains its original nut and frets, the dark ebony board is in great shape perfectly complimented by the model defining block inlays.
The original plastics are retaining including the Les Paul Custom plate at the fingerboard end, the nicely aged 'angel wing' pickguard and the black reflector knobs and pickup rings. There is a small crack by the jack socket as you can see in the pics which is not structural and not gone through to the cavity.
Pickups are the original short magnet PAF's (rare to see all PAF's in 1963) with gold covers which sound incredible. The neck pickups is warm, pokey, and full of rich overtones. The bridge pickup is airy with more bite but still retaining some all important mids. The sound is thicker than you might think in this position and overall it's a joy to hear! The middle pickup position is typically honky and nasal, but with some experimentation with pickup height it can be a really interesting, useable tone.
The sideways vibrola looks amazing but struggles with tuning stability as they all do so a MojoAxe VibroStop would be recommended to firm everything up. The geometry is good and there's height on the bridge to play with whilst giving a good string break angle.
Looks like there has been some maintenance work in the pot cavity but the original orange drop caps are present and the pots are original and look/work great albeit with codes hidden by solder or grime.
All in all this is a killer looking, killer sounding guitar that plays really well too. Comes complete with the original hard case. Grab it while you can, I doubt we'll see a cooler looking one any time soon!
