1960 Fender Stratocaster + OHSC
Slab board, early 1960 Fender Stratocaster in wonderfully condition featuring that charming shade of sunburst you only get on 1959 - early ‘62 Stratocasters.
Light weight and a joy to play with three totally original, classic 1960 black bottom pre-CBS pickups.
Finish has faded to this beautiful two tone sunburst due to the weak red hue that Fender used during this period. This particular example really has strongly faded red on the top. The guitar has been well cared for as is evident by the condition. The finish has been lightly touched up around the sides in a few places as and when the finish wore a bit. Though not clear to the naked eye, this is clear when viewed under blacklight. Apart from these touch ups the finish is in great condition.
All hardware is totally correct and is in good condition considering. Pickups are all original formvar windings and all electrics are correct, solder joint looking undisturbed. Pots are dated week 48 of 1959, neck has no date as was the case in mid 59 to early 1960 and serial number dates to early 1960.
Beautiful player too with a slim, fast neck that is a real joy to handle. It has been refretted with wear evident on the board. Interestingly a previous repair had included pinning the nut with what look like nails which you can see in the photo.
This guitar has a good history and is a two owner guitar. It comes with cardboard case which it was originally sold in as it was all the original owner could afford once he'd paid for the guitar. He could not quite stretch to the £35 Selmer (the UK importer) were charging for cases at the time. The Fender logo has been professionally hand painted on the outside by a sign writer back in 1961!
As with most of these early 60’s Strats, this guitar plays and sounds totally fantastic - this one really does! Pickups are wonderfully balanced and has all the range of tones you’d expect with the added easy access to those fated ‘in-between’ sounds.
Come and try it out. I can pretty much guarantee you will not be disappointed and like us, you will fall in love with it at first sight…
