Discover a nice rare bird in vintage guitar circles: A gravity defying, original 1960 Fender Custom Esquire in Two Tone Sunburst with Original Brown Case! First one we have seen in many a year.

This remarkable slab board, Custom Esquire features a lovely Two Tone (faded three tone) Sunburst finish of the type you only see in 1959-1961, accentuating its nicely grained ash body. It has the cool faded maroon sides too which is always a good thing to see.

The only modification to this very cool guitar is small area shaved out of the side of the control cavity where it looks like they may have had something installed in there. You can only see this when you take the control plate off.

This is one of the rarest of the Fender Esquire family, the Custom Esquire was not made in any great quantities during this period and we think it will be some time before another crops up. The body is dated 8-60, the neck is dated 8-60 and the pots are dated 19th week of 1960. Fingerboard is a nice thick chocolate hue, rosewood slab only seen during this period.

Equipped with a single blistering pre-CBS black bottom pickup, the Custom Esquire delivers a raw and powerful tone that will ignite your playing with unbridled energy. Seriously though, once you get used to the variety of tones you can get from this single pickup you can start to wonder why you would need another...

This is one of the rarest of the Fender Esquire family and is in very good condition with no finish touch ups, original hardware and original brown case and ashtray cover. It has had a refret with slightly larger frets, the work has been done well and it plays pretty darn well as you can imagine.

A true gem and one which we will probably not see another example of for many a year to come. It has quickly become a store favourite here and we are sure the new owner will not be disappointed...
