Sometimes its just three chords and a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior…

Born from a desire to provide a no-frills yet well constructed alternative to the company’s other offerings, the Les Paul Junior proved popular with all who appreciate the primal nature of the instrument. Introduced towards the end of 1958, the Double Cut design added better upper fret access to the neck and the cherry finish gave the guitar a fresh look for the coming decade.

Classic pairing of mahogany and cherry finish in a killer package. The top has faded a little and there are a fair few bumps and scrapes all over the body. The guitar has been oversprayed with clear (including the pickup cover!) and there is a patch of finish that seems to have reacted with possibly a cable or a strap. The finish has checked, giving this guitar a classic look.

The neck has that classic ‘59 profile with full feel in the hand. There is very little wear on the back of the neck and no signs of any breaks. The fretboard is in great condition and the original frets have plenty of life left in them.. Tuners look to be correct. The decal is still strong and there looks to have been no other tuners fitted.

The guitar comes with a gig bag type case.

The tortoiseshell pickguard and pickup cover are in great shape as are the knobs. The bridge is a quality nickel repro but the original which is broken and modified, is in the case. The lead out wire from the pickup has been changed but the pickup, pots and cap are all original. Interestingly, the tone pot is 250k which is something we do not see very often.

Electrically everything is correct. The solder joints look to be undisturbed aside from the aforementioned pickup lead out wire. The pickup has a strong output, original windings and sounds totally killer..!

What can we say about these guitars that you don’t already know? Incredibly versatile for an instrument with so few options. The controls are very interactive, coaxing out a wide palette of tones. These guitars are incredibly popular for a reason.
