A first year, deep bodied ES-140 complete with original case... What a cool guitar this is! Dating to 1950 (McCarty's first year at the helm as President) this is the deep bodied version made between 1950 to 1956 before they switched to a Thinline version. It's basically a 3/4 sized ES-175 and it oozes character!

The guitar retains its original sunburst finish that has aged very nicely. It shows some areas of wear, lacquer checking and fading to the top with a very attractive patina. The back remains in very good condition with much less fading to the colour. It's clearly been looked after throughout its life, and has likely spent many years stored in its original brown case.

At the headstock end we have the original single line 3-a-side Kluson tuners that function well. The headstock face displays the original silkscreen decal. The single-piece Mahogany neck has a very comfortable medium/large C profile and the guitar feels great to play. There are no breaks or repairs, the nut is original and in good condition, as are the frets.

The neck/body join is good, as is the overall geometry of the instrument. The dog-ear P90 sounds excellent with a balanced tone, good clarity and a sweetness to the top end. The original bridge is in good shape, as is the other hardware including the nickel tailpiece, tortoiseshell guard and bracket, and the cool early style taller speed knobs correct for the period.

This is a really good opportunity to get a very early example of this scarcely seen model in the UK. Complete with its original brown Lifton fitted case this is a really nice set for the player or collector.
